An exciting competition gets underway in Leeds this week sure to get all budding Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button's adrenalin pumping, as Pole Position Indoor Karting (PPiK) look to transform one lucky racing enthusiast into a real racing driver star.
One person who knows exactly what this would mean to motorsport fans across Leeds is the competition organiser, Ben Hyland. As a competitive racing driver with over 15 years experience, he is now giving the public a chance to live the dream and experience the industry first hand with the opportunity of a lifetime.
The North's leading indoor karting & conference venue PPiK 'Want2Race' competition runs from April to August 2010 and will see the ultimate winner turned from a novice motorsport enthusiast, into a professional motor racing driver. The winner will participate in a fully race prepared Lotus Elise in the televised Elise Trophy race at Silverstone in front of thousands of fans - making this one of the most exciting driving competitions the UK has seen.
Want2Race is open for anyone over the age of 18 with a full UK driving license, and who hasn't previously held a professional MSA license for car racing. To enter simply join the PPiK Driver's Club and then submit your entry for the Want2Race competition online for free.
Ben Hyland, who has an MSA race license and races himself regularly at competition level, is the brainchild behind Want2Race and explains what they're looking for: "We're on the hunt for natural driving talent. The pure novice who watches the racing on TV on a Sunday and thinks ‘I can do that' or the car enthusiast who has done some karting or track days in the past. We are certainly not looking for experienced racing drivers from the past or present. We urge drivers of all ages and either sex to enter as we are looking to select the individual with ability to listen & apply new driving techniques, deal with the media and of course take as much care of our race car as possible!"
The competition is now open and all entries must be submitted by Friday 25th June 2010. 150 random entries will then be asked to attend qualifying sessions at PPiK in Leeds. The most suitable drivers will be selected by a panel of racing drivers and team owners with the final three or four participants going out on a track day to drive the race prepared Lotus Elise for the first time.
More information can be found on the PPiK website http://www.ppik.net/want2race and on the Elise Trophy website (www.elisetrophy.com ). The prize winning car will be on display at PPiK from the end of April.
