YORKSHIRE BUSINESSES AND CELEBRITIES BATTLE IT OUT FOR THE 2010 CUP
In May of this year, businesses honed in on the chance to stake their claim for a place in the corporate event of the summer as the North's leading indoor karting and conference venue PPIK launched their 2010 Corporate Cup and...the results are now in and almost £4,000 has been raised!
The annual event last year saw HBOS and Royal Bank of Scotland go head to head and HBOS pre-registered to come back for more this year, however this year’s winners at last week’s final were new kids on the block Insight 3, as the proceedings took an interesting turn when PPiK introduced their new 'buy a lap' competition. As a result Insight UK Ltd, one of the UK’s leading IT providers, based in Sheffield, bought their way to victory and in an unexpected twist were crowned the overall 2010 Cup Winners in a charity presentation which was shortly followed by an after-race party with celebrities.
Last year’s winners Woodhall Builders from Gomersall, came in as close 2nd and Bubbletubs4u.com from Dewsbury come in 3rd after fierce competition on the track.
The event, sponsored by Box Pizza, Your pizza is our passion, is valued in the region as an opportunity for bringing businesses together cost effectively for team building, and to help motivate staff, organisers saw an impressive 30 plus corporate teams enter this year.
The celebrity teams taking part included Emmerdale stars James Thornton, Lyndon Ogbourne, and Rik Makarem as well as Radio Aire's presenters Rich Williams and Sarah Bolton.
The competition raised nearly £4,000 for partner charities Leeds Children's Hospital, Leeds Community Foundation and 96.3 Radio Aire's Cash for Kids. Competition organiser, Ben Hyland, who has over 15 years experience as a competitive racing driver said: “I am absolutely thrilled with how the competition went and pleased that so much money was raised for the charity's we support. It was a fantastic night, which brought together both fun and benefiting a good cause. I was really grateful for the support we received. It's great to see the event go from strength to strength and entries are now open for the 2011 Corporate Cup.”
Jacquie Cross, who works for Leeds Children's Hospital said, “I want to say a huge thank you to PPiK for supporting us and raising much needed funds for some of the most deserving children in our local communities. This is a fantastic way to have a night out with your work friends whether you're competing or cheering them on!”
PPiK is the North’s finest indoor karting arena, and is based on South Accommodation Road in Leeds. As well as their own events, they also host private parties and can accommodate business events.
