Leading Packaging Manufacturer Helps Client's Combat Green Issues
Leading specialised packaging material manufacturer, API Laminates, are celebrating the success of the launch of a series of consultancy forums to demonstrate to clients ways of making their packaging greener, to reduce levels of non-recyclable packaging in the UK and to maintain compliance to corporate social responsibility commitments.
API are offering their expertise for free with any businesses looking to make their packaging greener. Offering advice and guidance on the options most suitable, the sessions have already been successful with a number of leading European cosmetic, tobacco and multimedia brands.
In response to client requests, API has created a range of environmental solutions for customers who require a metallised effect board including Verdi, a film free metallised product, and PortoBio, a silver metallised laminate board that uses only natural cellulose-based materials, is compostable, can be recycled, and is manufactured under an exclusive global agreement.
Managing Director, Andrew Stevenson explained; “We believe that environmental issues and concerns about packaging waste are at the top of our client's agendas and that API Laminates can help in the challenge of ensuring packaging is doing its job creatively from a promotional point of view, but that it also answers the sustainability requirements that all companies are being forced to address, through pressure from shareholders, legislation or consumers. By launching the consultancy sessions we're broadening our target audience to demonstrate that everyone can play a part in making a difference to the environment.”
The service launch has been timed to coincide with enhanced Packaging Waste regulations and a drive for increased sustainability from Whitehall, increasing pressure on retailers to improve their products' green credentials. As consumers become increasingly environmentally aware, previous “green washing” is no longer sufficient and packaging must satisfy consumers eco-goals throughout the product life cycle.
Specified by Marks and Spencer, one of API's long-standing clients, PortoBio offers a solution which still provides the high quality, decorative finishing required for supermarket products, but utilises biodegradable materials. M&S have recently announced as one of the top ranked supermarkets in the UK for its efforts to reduce the weight of its packaging, and remains at the forefront of leading environmental retailers.
Recognised in the recent Sunday Times Green List, API Laminates remains focused on reducing its own carbon footprint, reducing waste and employing the most efficient plant and machinery within its Poynton based operation. With stringent self imposed emission targets to meet, a range of measures are in place including a review to assess the practicalities of harvesting all water used in the business from the 60,000square foot roof area.
Manufacturing specialised materials for packaging, and with a worldwide reputation for quality and technical excellence, API's products are used in a variety of applications including high quality decorative materials for use in the tobacco, drinks, luxury goods, food and consumer products sectors.
