Getting under the skin of client requirements the survey highlights the stereotypes pushed onto technology companies, revealing that a large proportion of Yorkshire business people are still not confident when it comes to choosing a website design supplier. As part of research undertaken for the re-design of their own website, www.chaptereight.com, M.D Mario Thomas took the opportunity to ask companies and contacts what they look for when hunting out a new supplier.
With over 60% perceiving that finding a supplier for technology development was a chore, and 52% feeling it was one that was riddled with uncertainty and concerns, it is clear that whilst consumers faith in the web is rising continuously, the businesses that should be undertaking online development are not quite so at ease.
Key concerns when researching new potential working partners showed up to be proof of credentials, and client testimonials, highlighting the fear that many web based companies do not have longevity or business experience to support their designs.
One anon response stated: " We have been burnt in the past from fly by night web companies and would certainly make sure in future that the experience of the team behind the company is up to the standard we require, from a supplier that is to help us achieve business objectives".
Mario feels that this nervousness comes from businesses need to cut costs in the recent years and therefore relying on the wrong level of person/organisation to be in charge of their online representation.
He said:" There is the temptation to go for the cheapest option, but this very rarely is the best solution for your business. Experience and business insight can not be offered at the same rate as a start-up designer working out of his back bedroom, but will pay for itself many times over in terms of business return on investment".
Keen to illustrate how this has been done, the new Chapter Eight website is home to comprehensive case studies and client testimonials, from companies such as North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, The University of Manchester and Charities Trust, which spell out in no uncertain terms how solutions provided by Chapter Eight have enhanced the productivity and raised revenue for the organisations.
